Bridges | West Street, Antrim, NH | 2019

West Street over Great Brook was a 14-foot span corrugated aluminum box culvert installed in 1998. The existing structure was in poor condition and listed on the New Hampshire Department of Transportation’s (NHDOT) Municipal Redlist. A 7-foot wide prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge was also installed just upstream of the culvert.

The replacement bridge is a 28-foot span prestressed concrete butted deck beam superstructure  founded on steel H-piles with a cast-in-place concrete cap and butterfly wingwalls. This type of structure best addressed the hydraulic requirements of the crossing as well as the physical constraints of the existing roadway, abutting driveways, and existing stone walls constructed along the west side of Great Brook. The prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge was removed and relocated to a nearby park in Town. West Street was closed during construction and a temporary traffic detour plan was coordinated with the Town.

The bridge replacement project was funded by the Town of Antrim and the NHDOT Municipally-Managed Bridge Aid Program and the new bridge was opened to traffic in 2019.
