New and Replacement Bridges

  • Perkins Bridge, Belfast, ME – Design of cast-in-place concrete abutments using the LRFD design method for a 50-foot span inflatable composite-concrete arch bridge (bridge in a backpack).

  • High Haith Road over Squam Lake, Center Harbor, NH – Design, permitting and construction administration for the replacement of a deteriorated 15-foot long concrete slab bridge. The new precast concrete voided slab bridge will span 24 feet and be founded on cast-in-place concrete abutments. This ARRA-related project required coordination with NH Department of Labor and Compliance and more frequent oversight of the contractor.

  • Old North Branch Road over North Branch River, Antrim, NH – Design and construction administration to replace a critically deficient steel I-beam bridge. Structural design of the cast-in-place deck, steel plate girders, elastometric bearings, and cast-in-place abutments and wingwalls for the 80-foot long replacement structure using the LRFD design method.

  • North Main Street Bridge over Miller Brook, Antrim, NH – Design and construction administration for a 12-foot wide by 10-foot high precast concrete box culvert which replaced the deteriorated, 10-foot historic concrete barrel arch.

  • Eel River Restoration, Plymouth, MA – Site design for the replacement of two existing culverts with precast concrete boxes structures as part of a waterway restoration project. The first 10-foot wide (span) by 6-foot high replacement structure is 70 feet out-to-out with mechanically stabilized earth wingwalls, a 24-foot wide travel way, and guardrail. The second structure is 30 feet out-to-out with a 10-foot wide driveway.

  • Old Marlborough Road Bridge over Charcoal Brook, Dublin, NH – Design and permitting of an emergency bridge replacement necessitated by flooding in April 2007 that resulted in roadway failure. Performed extensive hydraulic evaluation of the watershed utilizing HydroCAD to model wetland storage areas and evaluate environmental impacts of the project. The replacement bridge is a 12-foot wide precast concrete box structure. Project required close coordination with the Town of Dublin, FEMA and the NHDOT.
