The Cummins Pond Dam (Dam #066.02) is an earthen dam having a maximum height of 12 feet, and an overall length of approximately 130 feet. The dam outlet works consist of a 12-foot wooden stoplog section with mortared field stone masonry training walls. The dam is classified by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) as a class A dam, meaning low hazard.
The dam has deteriorated over time and is in need of repair. Areas of concern indicate settlement of the embankment, seepage at the toe, and leakage at the masonry channel walls. The Owner proposes to repair the dam and construct a small hydroelectric power project, with a penstock intake at the spillway, an overland penstock and a powerhouse located approximately 335 feet downstream of the dam.
QCC designed a new spillway with cutoff walls, new penstock and intake structure, and seepage control measures for the earthen embankment. QCC also acquired environmental and dam reconstruction permits for this project.
